NLP is an abbreviation for ‘neuro-linguistic
programming’ – so now you know
why it’s abbreviated!
‘Neuro’ refers to the mind
and the way it processes all experiences through the
five senses.
‘Linguistic’ relates to
both verbal and non-verbal communication and dialogue
– and that includes internal dialogue within ourselves.
‘Programming’ is to do
with our patterns, thoughts and behaviour. If you think
about it, you ARE your past. Everything you’ve
come to believe and know has come from your past, recent
or distant. Even your body represents your past (that’s
food for thought!). However, we can still be running
‘mental programmes’ and beliefs from our
past too and sometimes these are no longer appropriate.
They may well be unconscious beliefs…but long-buried
memories from the past may be having an effect on your
decisions tomorrow.
Are you going to carry all that ‘luggage’
around forever or would you feel more able without some
of it? Instead of just ‘behaving’, NLP is
about being able to choose how to function and behave
at your very best, to achieve your desired outcomes.
